Walking, both from the doorstep and from a few miles further afield is superb, with beautiful countryside and ever-changing views all around. There are opportunities for sailing, watersports, fishing and climbing locally, numerous excellent pubs and eateries, a superb range of shops and retail outlets in the area and many tourist attractions of all types – in short something for all ages and interests, whatever the season.

Local Attractions

Here are a selection of helpful ideas for things to see and do in the local area:

  • Walking to Ambleside over the fells (about 2 miles of relatively easy walking) and getting a taxi back if necessary (about £8.50 for a car-load)
  • Walking to the superb Britannia Inn at Elterwater on an easy path past the picturesque lake
  • Walking to Loughrigg Tarn (which can be seen just minutes away) and if desired on to Loughrigg Fell and Loughrigg Terrace with its stunning views and down to the bustling village of Grasmere with its shops, tea rooms and pubs, etc.
  • The pub quiz (and the shoulders of lamb) at Wainwrights Inn at Chapel Stile just a couple of miles away
  • Slowly cruising around Coniston Water on a little motor boat
  • Climbing Scafell Pikes from the end of Langdale, preferably on a pleasant day and reaching the highest point in England! (Langdale Pikes, Coniston Old Man and Helvellyn are all only a stone’s throw away)
