A special mention ought to be made for The Punch Bowl at Crossthwaite in the unspoilt Lyth Valley. Its the perfect place to make a stop on a brisk winter walk to warm up. Their Christmas menu and events calender look particularly tantalizing.
GoLakes also offers a good list of favourite winter haunts. The George and Dragon at Clifton is a particularly attractive 18th century coaching inn, refurbished by local craftsmen. They have a great ethos and rear a lot of their own produce. They also offer delicious seasonal menus.
