Fell running is time-honored Lake District tradition, and remains as popular as ever. Whilst it might sounds a bit grueling to some of us, it is possible to take a more relaxed approach and see this as a new way to enjoy the beautiful scenery the Lake District offers.
If you fancy taking a more active approach towards exploring the Lake District’s magnificent fells, Jen and Sim Benson’s book Wild Running is an excellent place to start. From Wild Things Publishing, the guys who brought you the fantastic wild swimming guides, this book is an accessible way to get into running in the British countryside, outlining beautiful routes throughout the country, as well as offering tips on how to prepare and safety considerations to keep in mind. With two whole sections devoted to the Lakes, its a great book to travel with.
The Guardian also outlines several of the Lake District routes from the book here.
